ATV/UTV Routes through the Town of Grand Rapids

Official Announcement:

Beginning July 6, 2022 at 7:00 A.M., The Town of Grand Rapids has opened ATV/UTV routes through the Township.
On May 10, 2022, the Town of Grand Rapids Board of Supervisors approved and adopted amendments to Town of Grand Rapids Ordinance 59, Regulating All-Terrain and Utility-Terrain Vehicle Operation.  Ordinance 59 is available on the Town of Grand Rapids website.

The signs have been installed and operation of ATV/UTV’s on routes within the Township is now open.
The map of the ATV/UTV routes is available and posted at the Town Hall, and available for viewing at the Town Hall front office.  The map is also available on the Town of Grand Rapids website. 
Some key points to remember as far as ATV/UTV operation on Town roads include:

  1. Speed limit is the roadway speed limit for motor vehicle traffic, unless otherwise designated lower for ATV/UTV’s and posted with signage.
  2. No ATV/UTV’s may be operated on town roads between 10:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. the following day.
  3. ATV/UTV’s must be operated on paved, graveled or maintained road surfaces only.
  4. ATV/UTV’s must yield to other vehicles and pedestrians.
  5. No person shall possess an open intoxicant container while operating, or as a passenger on, an ATV/UTV on any route or street within the Town of Grand Rapids.
  6. All operators age 16 or older must have a valid driver’s license and must carry their driver’s license on their person at all times while operating on Town roadways.
  7. No person may operate an ATV/UTV upon any Town road unless the owner or operator of the ATV/UTV has in effect a liability policy covering the vehicle being operated, with minimum liability coverage consistent with Wis. Stat. 344.62 and carry proof of it.
  8. Headlights and taillights must be functional and in operation at all times. 
  9. All other Department of Natural Resources regulations from Wis. Stat. 23.33 apply.
